We are transported to the year 2099 where Spidey and Nick Fury are working towards stopping Miles Morales from being attacked by the Kingpin and his New Goblin Apes. It's time to play as Spider-Man. In case you haven't noticed, I absolutely love the New 52 reboot of Spider-Man. And you can expect the same devotion from me when the episodes 22 and 23 of the animated series make their way to home video shelves. Having said that, the game which I am currently reviewing is not related to the new continuity, nor do I even know much of its backstory. So this review can't be considered spoiler free.
Spider-Man: Edge of Time features the traditional comic book set up with a spider stranded in the future. This time though, it's the original version of Spider-Man. It is actually a really good thing that Marvel didn't go the usual method of presenting the character, because the franchise is doing extremely well at the box office. After all, the next release dates are July 3, 2016 and January 4, 2017, so it's good to have a decent game in between the two.
Spider-Man: Edge of Time is based on the new Marvel Comics series that started in 2014. The comics depict an alternate future where the mind-controlled evil alien race, the Scriers, have taken over Earth. Unfortunately for the humans, they are ruled by Spider-Man, who uses his incredible intelligence and fearlessness to vanquish each one of their insane attacks. The future is very bleak indeed, but Captain Marvel a.k.a Carol Danvers discovers concealed information establishing the possibility that a more optimistic future can be found. Whenever she returns to her timeline, Spider-Man takes over the planet with the alternate identity of Captain Spider.
Edge of Time features a large variety of new characters. Fury helps us navigate through the future, also through the cybernetic database. We can't reach the Scriers because of Captain Marvel. Oddly enough, the Scriers are based on the four classical elements. d2c66b5586
