Microsoft decided that 720p and 1080i is the \"sweet spot\" for the next generation, he said, having reviewed movies, television, games and the television sets themselves that are likely to spring up in the next decade.
Consumers who purchase both an Xbox 360 (which already includes a standard DVD drive for games) and the HD DVD add-on will spend the same amount of money as those who purchase a Sony PlayStation 3, which includes an expensive integrated Blu-ray drive. With its next-generation optical-disk advantage gone, Sony has had to resort to a single technical area in which the PlayStation 3 outshines the Xbox 360: HD output. In addition to the standard definition, 720p, and 1080i HD resolution that the Xbox 360 offers, the PlayStation 3will offer true 1080p output.
But this week, Microsoft announced that even that advantage has been nullified. It turns out that the Xbox 360 hardware has always supported true 1080p, and beginning this fall, the software giant will enable that functionality by shipping a free software patch to Xbox 360 users over the Internet. This patch will let Xbox 360 users display all Xbox 360 games and DVD movies at true 1080p; currently, the Xbox 360's firmware limits the device to 720p and 1080i HD output, with downsampling for standard definition. Suddenly, the Xbox 360 appears to have no serious technical limitations when compared with Sony's overpriced and repeatedly delayed PlayStation 3, although the Xbox 360 still lacks a HDMI connection. (However, you could conceivably add an HDMI connection by using a new cable connection kit, should one be made available.)
Tubi is for people who want a free service that doesn't feel cheap. Tubi's web interface and mobile apps have clean designs, and organize everything neatly into descriptive categories. One limitation with Tubi is that the streaming resolution is capped at 720p. That wouldn't be a major problem, except for the fact that many movies are only available in 540p. As expected, Tubi does not support offline downloads for mobile devices either. However, the service keeps track of the content you've watched, and lets you manage a watchlist. The parental control tools are a bit limited, but at least they're an option.
Either you are a history buff, or you'll grow into one, so might as well embrace it now with History Vault. However, the service could use a few more modern touches. History Vault does not support 4K streaming, but most titles are available to watch in either 720p or 1080p. Unfortunately, History Vault's other drawbacks are that it doesn't let you download titles for offline viewing on Android devices, and it has limited accessibility options. You can get the app on mobile platforms (Android and iOS), media streaming devices (Apple TV, Chromecast, Fire TV, Roku), and on the web, but not on game consoles. 153554b96e
